It is with great pride that boutique publishing house, Contact Media, scooped the prestigious PICA award for best Business to Business Editor for their magazine The Wits Business School Journal (WBSJ).

Editor, Peta Krost-Maunder, was awarded the title at the prestigious PICA awards ceremony held at the Sandton Convention Centre last night. Peta was clearly overwhelmed with the honour but it came as no surprise to Contact Media Publisher, Sean Press. Add a comment

Kenya Airways staff & customers contribute towards the national famine relief kittyKenya Airways has today added its contribution towards the National Famine Relief kitty after its staff and customers raised KSh 13, 538,822.

This amount has been raised through different initiatives announced by the airline last month during the Kenyans for Kenya Corporate Launch, where the airline made a KSh 10M corporate donation towards famine hit areas of Turkana.

Speaking when handing over the cheque on behalf of Kenya Airways staff and customers, Kenya Airways CEO Dr. Titus Naikuni was pleased that Kenya Airways staff and customers had been actively involved in raising funds towards alleviating Famine in Northern Kenya. Add a comment

Embraer and Kenya Airways ratify contract for up to 26 Embraer 190 jets

Embraer and the Pride of Africa Kenya Airways have finalized the contract for the acquisition of 10 EMBRAER 190 jets. This agreement completes contract negotiations following the signing of a Letter of Intent during the 49th Paris Air Show in June 2011.  The deal also includes purchase rights for 16 aircraft, which could be either the EMBRAER 190 or other models of the E-Jet family.

“This final agreement from Kenya Airways for more aircraft in its fleet demonstrates not only its confidence in the future but also its endorsement of the versatility of our family of E-Jets”, said Paulo César de Souza e Silva, Embraer President, Commercial Aviation. “This confirmation is a sign that our E-Jets have been instrumental in the growth of our largest operator in Sub Saharan Africa, and provided it with an optimal tool to develop new routes while providing their customers with a reliable and comfortable aircraft.” Add a comment

Over the next 20 years, nearly 80 million people will retire; that’s nearly 10,000 baby boomers a day. This trend will likely lead to significant generational shifts in the workforce, and the potential for a tremendous loss in intellectual capital as senior staff departs. The trend will also challenge organisations to more rapidly on-board new hires. Enterprise Social Software (ESS), alongside an effective change management program, can help an organisation address these knowledge transfer needs.

There is an enormous about of “know how” and business insight within the heads of our senior workers. At the same time, those entering the workforce will be expected to become proficient quickly. We need to create opportunities for people to connect, share, learn and collaborate as a natural way of working rather than repeating the “knowledge capture” mistakes of the past. That’s where ESS offers tremendous potential. By making work more observable and participation more visible, “knowledge transfer” becomes something that occurs as people interact and build relationships. Let’s look at two examples:
